Nanoplasty vs keratin: which smoothing treatment is right for you? If you’re tired of fighting frizz every morning, you’ve probably heard of keratin treatments. Lately, more clients at my Vermont salon have been asking about nanoplasty too. Both smooth the hair and cut your styling time, but they work differently and suit different people.
Here’s how I help clients at Fabuluxe Hair Studio choose between them.

What is a keratin treatment?
A keratin treatment coats the hair with protein, then seals it in with heat. The result is smoother, shinier hair that’s much less frizzy and quicker to blow-dry.
Best for:
- Thick, frizzy or humidity-prone hair
- Clients who want a sleek, polished finish
- Cutting your blow-dry time in half
Results typically last around three to four months, depending on your hair and how you care for it at home.
What is nanoplasty?
Nanoplasty is a newer smoothing treatment. It uses a blend of amino acids and conditioning ingredients to smooth and strengthen the hair from within. Many clients choose it because the formulas are designed to be gentler than traditional smoothing treatments.
Best for:
- Coloured, blonde or damaged hair that needs repair as well as smoothing
- Clients who want a softer, more natural movement
- Anyone who prefers a gentler formula
Nanoplasty often lasts a little longer than keratin, and many clients love how healthy their hair feels afterwards.

Nanoplasty vs keratin: quick comparison
| Keratin | Nanoplasty | |
|---|---|---|
| Main benefit | Frizz control and sleekness | Smoothing plus repair |
| Finish | Very smooth and polished | Smooth with natural movement |
| Great for | Thick, frizzy hair | Coloured or damaged hair |
| Price at Fabuluxe | From $180 | From $220 |
Can I have it over coloured or blonde hair?
Yes. Smoothing treatments can actually make coloured hair look glossier. If you’re planning a colour service as well, I’ll recommend the best order to do them in, so your colour stays vibrant and your hair stays healthy.
Aftercare tips
- Use a sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner
- Always apply heat protection before styling
- Avoid tying your hair tightly for the first few days
- Book a K18 or moisture treatment between visits to keep hair strong
Still deciding between nanoplasty vs keratin?
Every head of hair is different, which is why I always start with a consultation. With nearly 20 years’ experience in cutting and colour, I’ll look at your hair type, condition and lifestyle, then recommend the treatment that will actually work for you.
