If your hair feels dry, stretchy or snaps easily, especially after lightening, you’ve probably heard about K18. It’s one of the professional treatments I use most at Fabuluxe Hair Studio, and clients often ask me what it actually does. Here’s a simple explanation.
What is K18?
K18 is a leave-in repair treatment built around a patented peptide. Rather than just coating the outside of the hair to make it feel smoother, it’s designed to work inside the hair to help repair the bonds in the keratin structure that get broken by bleach, colour, heat and everyday wear.
In plain terms: conditioners make hair feel better for a few days. K18 aims to help hair behave stronger: more bounce, less breakage and less of that stretchy, gummy feel.
Who benefits most from K18?
- Blondes and anyone who lightens their hair regularly
- Hair that’s been coloured many times or has had colour correction
- Hair that’s heat-styled most days
- Anyone growing their hair long who wants to protect their ends
- Clients preparing for a big change, like going much lighter
How a K18 treatment works in the salon
- Your hair is shampooed with a clarifying wash so the treatment can absorb properly.
- The K18 professional treatment is applied and left to work.
- The leave-in mask is applied to towel-dried hair and not rinsed out.
- Then we style as usual.
I often add K18 to a colour or foil appointment, so your hair gets repair support right when it needs it most.
K18 vs other treatments
| K18 | Nanoplasty / smoothing | Moisture mask | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main goal | Strength and repair | Smoothing and frizz control | Softness and hydration |
| Best for | Lightened, damaged hair | Frizzy, unmanageable hair | Dry hair |
| Changes texture? | No | Yes, smoother | No |

Getting the best results at home
- Don’t wash your hair for the first few hours after a K18 treatment
- Use a gentle, sulphate-free shampoo
- Apply heat protection before every blow-dry or straighten
- For very damaged hair, a series of treatments a few weeks apart works better than one
Is K18 right for your hair?
Book in for a consultation and I’ll check your hair’s condition. If K18 will genuinely help, I’ll recommend it; if a different treatment would suit you better, I’ll tell you that too. See all my treatments and hair repair services.
